Why cant some singers hit certain notes when they are performing live?

February 25th, 2010 | by admin |

For example I was listening to Queen play live, and Freddie(lead singer) had to sing some parts differently. Does anyone know why singers do this?
Never mind, you have to know who Freddie Mercury is to understand this question i guess.

Well to answer your question…

singers have different ranges, for example: alto, soprano, tenor, bass.
someone with a bass voice could not hit a note that an alto would find as ‘high’ because their voices are different.

Now about the bit that you mentioned about the "has to sing some parts differently" is about when a singer has to switch into a different range to be able to sing it.
The part which sounded like this probably sounded very ‘airy’
my voice does this. I am an ‘alto’ so if I need to sing a note which is in a ‘Soprano’ range then I need to switch to the ’soprano’ range which is very uncomfortable to do.

Changing range happens to most singers depending on what songs they need to sing

Hope that answers your question!

they have to sing louder in concerts, MUCH louder than when recording. during recording they have time to use stamina and control theyre breath and focus more easily on hitting those notes but in concert it is quite difficult when you are trying to sing over screaming fans. or it could be just that they edit theyre songs haha like miley cyrus

Because those certain notes aren’t in their range. Most artists these days use computer enhancements to make their voice sound better, sad, but true. And sometimes artists just want to freshen up their songs so they kinda remix it and sing the song at a different tempo or pitch or both for concerts. Hope this helped, good luck (:
