Bobbin winding on a treadle sewing machine

April 19th, 2010 | by admin |

A short video of how the bobbin winding works on my treadle sewing machine. It was made in 1918, and is still in fantastic shape.

    @TheNightWriter101 …
    @TheNightWriter101 even if you only take the treadle to restore it and maintain it, it’ll be worth it.

    @TheNightWriter101 …
    @TheNightWriter101 If you have the room for it, I say take it! These beautiful machines can continue to work for many, many years if well cared for but can easily be neglected beyond repair. Even if you have a small electric machine on the side for doing buttonholes or zigzag, the treadle will serve you well. Sewing silk requires a good silk needle. I like the control I get with the treadle for stopping when I want it to, which can come in handy with delicate fabrics.

    Hi was wondering if you know anything about adjusting the timing on a drop in bobbin on a 1953 singer?
    I’ve figured out the tension but the darn thing is only catching every 3 out of 15 stitches

    They can be, though there are some places you can still find them. They’re a little pricy! Take good care of them once you find them so you don’t have to.

    Wow, thanks again madfishmonger (where’s that name come from). Valuable information to be sharing, especially for those of us that have inherited such a machine, yet haven’t got a clue how to use it.
