You have a Singer 128, not one of the currently collectible models: http://www.singerco.com/pdf/SINGER_AG_nos.pdf and you can get a free manual for it here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html (It's the 127-3, 128-3 manual, not the one with the W in front).

Generally, in my part of the world (PNW US), an old electric machine like this is going to sell for about $0-50, average around $15-20. A treadle or handcrank would fetch a bit more, $40-150, average about $100.

http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

Just put 4530 in the search box.
References :
There is a free downloadable copy of the manual at the Singer site. Go to the product manual page and type in 4530 and it will bring up a screen that shows the hard copy purchase for $15, but right below that is the free downloadable copy. Hope this helps.
References :
Singerco.com

A coin dealer would have to look at it, or take it to a sewing expo as there are usually a collectors there.

A Singer dealer - not the sales people, may be interested.

Rough guess - $8.00
References :
Most likely it can be repaired by a sewing machine repair shop... the problem may be if it's economic to do so.

There are off-the-machine bobbin winders that may or may not work for you. "Sidewinder" is one such brand to look for.

Bands are usually comprised of people the musicians know through having worked with them. And some of the time the extraneous musicians are recommended by band members or other people whose opinion carries weight with the headliner. For instance, I live in Atlanta and know some violinists, cellists and folk musicians who regularly perform and record with big acts, such as REM, Indigo Girls, etc. Most of the time, the association evolves from people knowing each other from the local music scene. A violinist friend, for instance, is a member of two local bands. Because most musicians go to hear other bands during their down time, she meets tons of people who remember her when they decide to add violin to a recording. If they like what she does and get along with her, they'll sometimes ask her to tour with them. It's that way with most bands.

Most of the awards shows hire symphony members (in the city where the shows are filmed) to fill out the sound of guest performers. Since they're professional musicians, they're able to sight read anything that's placed in front of them. That eliminates the need for a lot of rehearsal, which is essential for one-off TV shows. So there's not really an audition process.
References :
Guitarist/singer/songwriter for 20+ years.

You get multiple degrees in violin performance from fine conservatoires. You audition for every possible orchestral engagement you can. You wangle yourslef onto the *first-call* list for subs and freelance work. All the time, you are pleasant, on-time, professional, and practice your butt off - because there are a hundred equally or better-qualified players for your spot.

Have you ever noticed - if you go to Broadway shows and read the orchestra personnel - that when a show closes, those players are immediately in another show? Whoever is doing the contracting just has people that he always calls. Always. Same for people who do the contracting for TV, etc.
