how much is my antique singer sewing machine worth?

the serial number is 1239497, singer says it is from 1873. it is in average condition, considering the age of the machine. all 4 drawers are intact. just trying to find out the value of the machine.

As with anything else, it is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay. You can look up past auction prices on Ebay, but that changes too with condition. Value to auction, retail or insure all differ too. What is it you are wanting to do with it?

I have an old Singer machine that is black with gold and silver decor and sphinx on it. My husband bought it at an antique shop for about $100, about eight years ago. The man at the shop said it was an older machine with a new motor. As best I can tell, the model number is NL-K 8014587. I would like to know the approximate year and value of the machine. I am also interested in finding a copy of the manual; the one that came with it has gone missing.

As to value — well, you were willing pay $100 for it, so that’s probably close to the value now, if you can find a buyer. As far as generalized value, there are still a ton of the old black Singers around, many with the Sphinx decals, and except for the 221/222 featherweights and the 301 that have attained cult status, old straight stitchers are not very valuable. In my part of the world, a Singer electric straight stitcher in average condition would be worth mostly $0-50; add up to about $50 for treadle or handcrank over the electric price. The Sphinx decals were pretty popular. Do not use modern cleaners on a decal set: it causes them to silver and destroys the value to collectors.
